However, in April 1982, it abruptly gained global attention. The outcome of a war, for which Britain had mobilized its most formidable task force since 1945, would be determined by the flag that flew over the corrugated iron and timber cottages of Stanley. The town transformed into the epicenter of a fierce conflict, witnessing the departure of many islanders as the invasion unfolded. Yet, a handful of hundred individuals remained, among them being Graham Bound, then the editor of the Islands' sole newspaper. This book is based on his journal, written during the occupation and siege. The intensity of the fighting for the town was such that the Ministry of Defence in London announced that it would endure the heaviest artillery bombardment since the Korean War. For 39 years, the journals remained untouched and unread, until the author rediscovered them and prepared them for publication. Among the notebooks were unprocessed photographs that he had taken at the time. Some of these never-before-seen photos are included in this book, offering a detailed account of the Falklands war, particularly the siege of Stanley, from an islander's perspective.

Weight: 586g
Dimension: 164 x 242 x 29 (mm)
ISBN-13: 9781399088671

https://shulphink.com/products/a-falkland-islander-s-wartime-journal-surviving-the-siege-9781399088671
