Hilary Cartwright, Christine Kono, Chris Lechner, and Marcus Schulkind
How do dancers’ life stories contribute to dance history? Through an autobiographical project exploring life review with her dance teachers – Hilary Cartwright, Christine Kono, Chris Lechner, and Marcus Schulkind – Elizabeth Waterhouse develops an embodied methodology for life story interviews and life-writing. Merging dance studies, auto/biography studies, oral history, and practice-led dance research, this interdisciplinary inquiry offers a methodologically innovative and reflexive contribution to the study of dance, memory, and embodiment. Drawing on her experience as both a dance scholar and former professional dancer, Waterhouse shows how gathering her dance teachers’ life stories enables her to write embodied history.

Publication date: 17 September 2026

Page count: 388

Dimensions: Height 23 mm; Width 15 mm

Publisher: Transcript Verlag

Format: Paperback

ISBN-13: 9783837681741

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0522/4297/2845/files/fallback-book-cover_c8422647-b16c-4992-81b1-16d9e1bea553.png?v=1791241571
