Despite living in New York City for a decade and traveling extensively around the world, she had yet to explore the rest of her home country. However, all that changed when her friend Tanya Rouse invited her to visit her hometown of Dora, Alabama. Nagasaka continued to visit Dora over several years, gradually building a photographic archive of her visits. A selection of these photographs are featured in her debut monograph titled Dora, Yerkwood, Walker County, Alabama. Located northwest of Birmingham, Dora is a town of approximately 2,300 people. Popular attractions include churches, college football, and Jacks, the regional fast-food chain. On her visits, Nagasaka was introduced to these local landmarks and customs. Despite being an outsider, Nagasaka managed to build trust with the townspeople and began capturing their portraits. Her efforts paid off when she documented the Dora High School homecoming football game. This event opened doors for her, and she gained a deeper understanding and appreciation for the lives of several Walker County residents. Through her photography, Nagasaka was able to tell their stories and shed light on the unique culture and experiences of this rural community.

Weight: 914g
Dimension: 236 x 278 x 21 (mm)
ISBN-13: 9781915423108

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0522/4297/2845/products/noImage_1_b9ddbd25-b5f4-4d0a-9005-cd6c4cce22c2.jpg?v=1699977773
