It consisted of four essays on the history of the cathedral. Almost immediately, it was reprinted, and the 1855 printing is reissued here. Stanley described the work as an endeavor to connect topics of local interest with the general course of history. He takes four events associated with Canterbury: the arrival of Augustine, the murder of Becket, the death of the Black Prince, and the development of the shrine of Becket. He puts them in a historical context, while also describing the locations in which scenes of historical importance were enacted, and including fascinating details from his literary sources, such as Becket's hair shirt, discovered after his murder to be alive with vermin. Other works by Dean Stanley, including his Historical Memorials of Westminster, are also reissued in this series.

                            Weight: 386g
Dimension: 196 x 309 x 17 (mm)
ISBN-13: 9781108078726

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0522/4297/2845/products/a530be91d489dffcc28f5b7ee0341ccf.jpg?v=1629599600
https://shulphink.com/products/historical-memorials-of-canterbury-the-landing-of-augustine-the-murder-of-becket-edward-the-black-prince-beckets-shrine
