The art of the past 150 years has been primarily perceived as a result of revolutionary changes in the way we perceive the world. As a consequence, modern art has been criticized for lacking depth in its content. This publication aims to demonstrate that older and ancient resources, such as themes related to form regulation, gain new significance in art through their survival and interaction with other fields such as art, philosophy, natural sciences, and an expanded form of perception. In this context, Western art is considered part of global cultural heritage. The research follows the tradition of iconological studies, but differs from them in that it considers the relativization of norms through individual experiences. The findings are presented in a conscious critical distance from prevailing progressive views and reactive judgments.
