PDAC is predicted to become the second leading cause of mortality by 2030 due to its propensity to spread quickly to distant organs. Progress is being made in disease etiology and pathogenesis, and intensive research is focused on developing optimal treatment approaches. This thematic issue of Advances in Cancer Research (ACR) includes ten review articles by experts that cover cancer disparities, PDAC pathobiology, the roles of the tumor microenvironment, tumor heterogeneity, PC stem cells, genetic and signaling events critical for PDAC pathogenesis, Immunotherapy and chemoresistance in PDAC, and different PDAC mouse models.

Format: Hardback
Length: 390 pages
Publication date: 01 June 2023
Publisher: Elsevier Science Publishing Co Inc

Pancreatic cancer (PC) holds a significant position as the third leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the United States, with an estimated 5-year overall survival rate of only 11% for Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinomas (PDAC). This cancer is predicted to surpass breast cancer as the second leading cause of mortality in the United States by 2030. In clinical settings, PDAC patients often face a dire prognosis upon initial diagnosis, as the disease has a remarkable ability to rapidly metastasize to distant organs, including the lymphatic system. The process of PDAC metastasis begins shortly after tumor initiation and is influenced by a complex interplay between autonomous tumor cells and cellular components within the tumor microenvironment. Despite the challenges associated with treating PDAC and its status as a leading cause of cancer-related deaths, significant progress has been made in understanding the disease's etiology and pathogenesis. Intensive research efforts are currently focused on developing optimal treatment strategies for patients. Given the ongoing advancements in understanding PDAC pathogenesis and designing novel therapies, it was deemed timely to create a thematic issue of Advances in Cancer Research (ACR) dedicated to PDAC. This thematic issue comprises ten review articles authored by esteemed experts, covering various aspects of the disease. These articles explore cancer disparities, PDAC pathobiology, the roles of the tumor microenvironment, tumor heterogeneity, pancreatic cancer stem cells, genetic and signaling events critical for PDAC pathogenesis, immunotherapy and chemoresistance in PDAC, and different PDAC mouse models. By compiling this comprehensive collection of research, we aim to provide a valuable resource for researchers, clinicians, and patients alike, fostering a deeper understanding of PDAC and paving the way for improved treatment outcomes in the future.

Weight: 762g
Dimension: 158 x 239 x 26 (mm)
ISBN-13: 9780443133541
