Elliott Turner is a renowned event designer who creates captivating exhibitions and conferences for productions and companies across the globe. However, the onset of COVID-19 brought a sudden halt to these activities, as the pandemic posed significant risks to public health. On March 19, 2020, Elliott was working at Park Display in Bicester, a job that required him to isolate due to his diabetic condition. As he sought ways to pass the time during this challenging period, he decided to mow the lawn on March 23, 2020.
The garden refuse bin was already full, so Elliott piled the grass clippings at the end of the garden. To add a touch of creativity, he placed sticks in the shape of a carrot nose, a scarf, and gloves, creating a whimsical snowman-like figure. Elliott couldn't resist sharing his creation with the world, posting a humorous message on social media along with a picture of his grass snowman.
On March 24, 2020, the bin was emptied, and Elliott replenished it with the hat, scarf, and carrots, adding the caption, "To all of you worried about Mr. Grassy the snowman, he's now self-isolating." The following day, on March 25, Elliott took things a step further by power-washing the patio and scoring the letters "RIP" in the dirt in front of the bin. He expressed his sadness over the loss of his grass snowman, referring to him as "Mr. Grassy."
Little did Elliott know that his artistic endeavor would take an unexpected turn. Over the next 101 days, he embarked on a remarkable journey of art recreation, paying homage to his favorite works of art and artists who have inspired him throughout his career. Elliott's eldest son, recognizing his father's passion for art, captured a photograph of him praying beside the lawnmower, reminiscent of Millets' famous painting "The Angelus." The son posted the image with the caption, "So today we held a quiet service for Grassy, to follow the COVID-19 direction, there was just one in attendance, sorry Millet."
Elliott's dedication to art continued to flourish, as he embarked on a series of creative projects that showcased his artistic talent and love for the arts. He recreated famous paintings, sculptures, and installations, using everyday objects and materials to bring his artistic visions to life. His creations ranged from a miniature replica of the Mona Lisa to a life-size sculpture of a bird made from discarded plastic bottles.
This book, titled "Art Recreations in Homage to Favorite Works of Art and Artists," is a heartfelt tribute to Elliott's mother, who played a pivotal role in nurturing his artistic inclinations. Elliott's mother was a passionate art enthusiast who dedicated her life to educating her children about the beauty and significance of art. Through her unwavering support and encouragement, Elliott developed a deep appreciation for the arts and a desire to create his own artistic expressions.
This book serves as a testament to Elliott's artistic journey and the profound impact that his mother's love and guidance had on his life. It showcases a collection of his art recreations, each one a unique and captivating interpretation of his favorite works of art and artists. Elliott's artistic talent and dedication to the arts have not only brought him personal fulfillment but have also inspired others to appreciate the power of creativity and the beauty of art.
In conclusion, Elliott Turner's journey of art recreation during the COVID-19 pandemic is a testament to the resilience and creativity of the human spirit. Through his art, Elliott not only found a way to cope with the challenges of isolation but also created a lasting legacy of artistic excellence. This book is a loving tribute to Elliott's mother and a celebration of the power of art to inspire, heal, and bring joy to people's lives.
