The city is a desolate place, with a sickly glow to the clouds that seems to perpetually rain, even when it's not. Only sad and wounded individuals remain here, homeless in their apartments and unemployed at their jobs. Many are widows in their marriage beds, while others are celibates in amours or loners with numerous friends.
I cannot say much about myself now, except that we had known each other before and for a brief and insignificant period. We had a class together and grew up down the block, and our mothers occasionally say hello in the aisles of a grocery store somewhere north of Tampa. Perhaps in Maryland. Maybe in Solano County. Maybe somewhere out where the winds never change and the days pass like cars on a highway.
Unfortunately, my life has not turned out as I had hoped. I have long been haunted by your visions of this world, flickering on the outsides of my eyelids. For various reasons, I cannot bear to see them anymore.
