In June 1946, a troop of Boy Scouts from Wayne, Pennsylvania embarked on an unforgettable canoe paddle that would become a significant part of the Adirondack Ninety-mile Canoe Classic. Led by Paoli Troop 1, their journey took them from Old Forge to Saranac Lake, marking the beginning of the Northern Forest Canoe Trail. This trail, often compared to the Appalachian Trail, spans rivers, streams, lakes, and extends to Fort Kent, Maine.

Three of the scouts, Herb "Hobey" Henderson, George Aman, and Bill McClear, compiled a photo journal to document their experiences and dedicate it to future scouts. Hobey meticulously preserved the log and the memories of the fifteen scouts for decades, finally presenting it to Paoli Troop 1 on their 100th anniversary in 2011.

It's remarkable that Author William J. OHern, with the help of Dick and Hobey Henderson, discovered the journal and recognized its immense value to those who still enjoy canoeing and hiking in the same area today. The boys in the journal, now elderly men, must relish reliving the adventure that was carefully documented by their fellow scouts and will now be preserved for future generations in this small publication.

The scouts' journey through the Adirondacks was a testament to their resilience, teamwork, and love for the outdoors. Their adventure serves as a reminder of the importance of preserving our natural heritage and the experiences that come with exploring the world around us.
