A Garden Enclosed

This short essay offers a rich and compelling vision of the contemplative monastic vocation within the Anglican tradition. Lucius Cary (1866–1950) takes the chronogram over the chapel door at the Convent of the Incarnation as the starting point for his exploration not simply of the ideals of prayer and devotion, but the disciplined way of life required to sustain them.
