Adua, a young girl from Somalia, yearned to pursue a career in films and break free from her domineering father's control. Years later, she became an Old Lira, an immigrant who settled in Italy during the 1970s. As the Somalian civil war came to an end, Adua began contemplating a return to her birthplace. Sitting at the base of the elephant statue in Santa Maria square, Rome, she reminisced about her past forty years, seeking to make sense of the events and anticipate the future.

When Adua first arrived in Rome, her dreams of becoming a film star were dashed, leaving her with a sense of failure and shame. She knew that she could not return to the totalitarian regime of Somalia and the suffocating presence of her father. Adua's father had a history in Italy and his entire life in Somalia was marked by his attempts to fully submit to the oppressive rule of regimes. However, Adua was left to deal with the consequences of his choices.

Adua's story is a poignant exploration of colonialism, immigration, and racism, which have deeply impacted the lives of her and her father. It sheds light on the complexities of identity, belonging, and the search for a sense of home. Through her journey, Adua demonstrates resilience, strength, and the power of storytelling to heal wounds and bridge divides.
