Apollo Cokkinis, a Lieutenant-Colonel during World War Two, dedicated himself to organizing British Military Hospitals in North Africa and Italy, performing hundreds of surgeries on wounded men. This remarkable journey tested his surgical skills, ability to accomplish tasks, and his resilience and courage. Tragically, his two homelands, Odessa in Ukraine and Smyrna in Turkey, were devastated in 1919 and 1922, leaving his parents with nothing. Despite the hardships, Apollo's parents, opera singers, had instilled in him a love for music. He continued to share this passion with British troops, friends, and medical colleagues, captivating them with his repertoire. Apollo was also a dedicated mason, serving in various lodges for over 50 years, including founding the Hellenic Lodge in London. While maintaining ties with his family in Greece, Apollo embraced British culture in 1920, enjoying cricket and old British songs. He created a loving family in Britain, leaving a lasting impression on his grandchildren, who remember him as a warm, positive, and vibrant man who enriched their lives, including those born outside of his marriage. Apollo lived life to the fullest, leaving a remarkable legacy that continues to inspire.
