- More about Approaches for Modelling of Radioecological Data to Identify Key Radionuclides and Associated Parameter Values for Human and Wildlife Exposure Assessments
The IAEA Modelling and Data for Radiological Impact Assessments (MODARIA) programme produced a publication to identify key radionuclides and associated parameter values for human and wildlife exposure assessment. It prioritizes approaches to identify radionuclides and pathways that potentially contribute to internal and external exposure to organisms in wildlife groups and improves transfer parameter values for animal product data, such as cow and goat milk. The publication aims to provide Member States with technical information and data to develop and improve their models and approaches for radiological environmental impact assessment.

This publication, produced as part of the IAEA Modelling and Data for Radiological Impact Assessments (MODARIA) programme's Working Group 4, aimed to analyse radioecological data in IAEA Technical Reports Series publications to identify key radionuclides and associated parameter values for human and wildlife exposure assessment. The primary objective was to reduce uncertainties and develop innovative approaches to enhance the evaluation of the radiological impact on the public, flora, and fauna, stemming from radionuclides in the environment. The publication is divided into two main sections. The first section explores prioritization approaches to identify radionuclides and pathways that potentially contribute most to internal and external exposure to organisms in wildlife groups for different sources and exposure situations. The focus of the second section is on improving transfer parameter values for animal product data, specifically cow and goat milk. Milk was chosen due to its high priority in radiological environmental impact assessment. Examples of approaches used to identify potentially important data gaps, illustrated through case studies, are also presented. This publication serves as a valuable resource for Member States, providing them with technical information and data to develop and improve their models and approaches for radiological environmental impact assessment for facilities and activities.
