Motoharu, the second child and successor of the Tsujimura clinic, has always held his childhood friend, Akira Hazumi, close to his heart. However, when Motoharu realized his affections towards Akira were more than just simply friendship, and confessed, their relationship became strained. Unable to reciprocate Motoharu's feelings, Akira turned him down, and they slowly grew apart from one another. Despite the ongoing tension between them, Motoharu still decides to enroll in the same university and department as Akira. However, it's not easy getting over the pain of being rejected, and Motoharu soon finds himself visiting Geishas in the middle of the night, in a desperate attempt to forget everything that happened.
All that changes, though, when one day, Akira suggests they walk home together, and for the first time in a long time, things feel as if they've gone back to how they used to be. "If it means I can stay by your side, even as a friend," that's what Motoharu thought anyways.
As they walk home, Akira and Motoharu reminisce about their childhood memories and the times they spent together. They laugh and talk, and for a moment, it feels like nothing has ever happened between them. Motoharu is grateful for the time they have spent together, and he realizes that even if they can't be more than friends, he still wants to be there for Akira.
As they reach Akira's house, they pause for a moment and look at each other. Motoharu takes a deep breath and smiles at Akira. "Thank you for walking home with me," he says. "It means a lot to me."
Akira smiles back at him. "Of course," she says. "We're friends, after all."
Motoharu nods, and they continue walking home, hand in hand. Even though their relationship may have been strained in the past, they are still able to find comfort and companionship in each other. And for Motoharu, that's all that matters.
