Michael Peppiatt's book "Bacon-Giacometti" is a play-like imagined encounter between the two artists, set in 1965 London. They enjoy a dinner at Wheeler's fish restaurant and then go to the Colony Room, Bacon's favorite club in Soho, to continue their conversation about life, art, and their mutual friends.

Bacon-Giacometti, a significant exhibition held at the Fondation Beyeler in Basel in 2018, prompted curator, writer, and art historian Michael Peppiatt to conduct extensive research on the relationship between Francis Bacon and Alberto Giacometti. Peppiatt described a dialogue between the two artists that had been evolving in his mind since Bacon shared detailed accounts of his interactions with Giacometti during the latter's visit to London in 1965 to oversee preparations for his major exhibition at the Tate. This book, presented in the form of a play, envisions a fictional encounter between the two men. In the imagined scenario, Bacon and Giacometti indulge in a lavish dinner at Wheeler's fish restaurant before heading to the Colony Room, Bacon's favorite club in Soho, to continue their uninhibited conversation about life, art, and their shared acquaintances. As the club empties out, the artists, aware that they may not have another opportunity to engage in such a profound exchange, order more champagne and continue their discussion until the early hours of the morning.
