This second volume of the Handbook of Biodiesel and Petrodiesel Fuels presents a comprehensive collection of population papers in the field of feedstock-specific biodiesel fuels. Initially, the research on biodiesel fuels focused on edible oils as first-generation biodiesel fuels. However, growing public concerns about the competition with food crops and the adverse effects on ecological diversity and deforestation led to the exploration of nonedible-oil-based biodiesel fuels as second-generation biodiesel fuels.

In response to these challenges, waste oil-based biodiesel fuels as third-generation biodiesel fuels have emerged. This shift has been driven by the ecological and cost benefits of waste treatment.
