Charles Paris is living a charmed life. He has reconciled with his estranged wife and secured a coveted stage role as Sir Toby Belch in Twelfth Night. However, his happiness is short-lived. His attempts to woo Frances fail, and the play's director falls ill with gastric trouble. His replacement, Romanian wunderkind Alex Radelescu, takes the play in a radical new direction, either with or without Charles. As another member of the company falls sick, Charles suspects a poisoner is on the loose, and he could be the next victim. Can he unmask the culprit before this comedy turns into a tragedy?
Adapted by Jeremy Front, this engaging dramatisation stars Bill Nighy as Charles Paris, with Suzanne Burden as Frances, Jon Glover as Maurice, and Julian Rhind-Tutt as Alex Radelescu. The Sunday Times praised the production, calling it "always a treat."
Written by Simon Brett, the play was adapted by Jeremy Front and produced and directed by Sally Avens. It was first broadcast on BBC Radio 4 from August 30 to September 20, 2006.
