Sergei Prokofiev wrote a series of twenty piano pieces between 1915 and 1917, inspiring a collection of twenty individual felt-tip drawings on watercolor paper capturing fugitive visions of China. The search for a true contemporary regional language in traditional Chinese architecture and painting has been a revelation, with the Summer Palace on the outskirts of Beijing and vanishing water towns such as Zhujiajiao known as the "Venice of Shanghai".

Between 1915 and 1917, the renowned Russian composer Sergei Prokofiev embarked on a creative journey, composing a series of twenty captivating piano pieces. During one enchanting evening, as he played these musical compositions for a gathering of friends, the poet Konstantin Balmont was inspired to pen a sonnet titled "Mimolyotnosti." Kira Nikolayevna, a talented translator, would later translate this sonnet as "Visions fugitives." These mesmerizing miniatures ignited a spark of inspiration within me, prompting me to assemble a magnificent jewel box. Within this box, I have carefully curated twenty individual felt-tip drawings on watercolor paper, each capturing fleeting visions of China. For a nation that has recently placed great emphasis on the future, I have been captivated by the quest for a genuine contemporary regional language in traditional Chinese architecture and painting. The intricate and thoughtful composition in harmony with landscape and light has been a continuous source of revelation, exemplified by the awe-inspiring Summer Palace on the outskirts of Beijing and the enchanting water towns like Zhujiajiao, known as the "Venice of Shanghai."
