  • More about Combat Meteors

Several nations used the Meteor in anger after WWII, including the RAF, Egypt, Israel, Syria, Argentina, Brazil, Ecuador, South Africa, and Australia. It played an important part in the emerging air forces of a changing post-WWII world and is essential reading for aviation enthusiasts and scale aeromodellers.

This book is dedicated to the nations that unleashed the Meteor in anger. Following WWII, Europe's air forces were eager to rebuild their air arms with jet aircraft, with limited options. Consequently, the Meteor emerged as the prime candidate, leading to the sale of hundreds of these aircraft over the ensuing years.

Further afield, in the Middle East, Meteors found their way into the hands of Egypt, Israel, and Syria. In distant South America, Argentina, Brazil, and Ecuador acquired the aircraft. On the other side of the world, South Africa and Australia also operated Meteors.

Several of these nations employed their Meteors in actual combat scenarios. From the RAF's valiant fight against the V-1 menace to the various hotspots across the dwindling Empire, from Aden to Malaya. The Suez Crisis of 1956 witnessed Meteors from the RAF, Egypt, Israel, and Syria engaging in the same conflict. During the Korean War (1950-53), the Royal Australian Air Force undertook thousands of ground attack missions and even engaged in air-to-air combat with the MiG-15. During several internal revolutions in Argentina in 1956, both sides operated the Meteor. Even France deployed a handful of Meteor night fighters during their troubles in Algeria in 1957. While it may not have achieved a significant number of victories, the Meteor played a crucial role in shaping the emerging air forces of a rapidly evolving post-WWII world. This book is a must-read for aviation enthusiasts and scale aeromodellers alike.
