Introduction:
Long-term care (LTC) is a critical component of healthcare systems, providing support and assistance to individuals who require ongoing care due to age, disability, or chronic illness. Mongolia, like many other countries, is facing significant challenges in providing adequate LTC services to its aging population.
Objectives:
The primary objective of this publication is to present a study on the availability and provision of LTC in Mongolia. It aims to discuss findings from the analysis and offer recommendations for the development of LTC systems in the country.
Methodology:
The study was conducted using a mixed-methods approach, including a literature review, interviews with key stakeholders, and a survey of LTC facilities and providers. Data were collected from various sources, including government agencies, non-governmental organizations, and academic institutions.
Findings:
The publication highlights several key findings related to the availability and provision of LTC in Mongolia. Firstly, it identifies the need for and supply of care, regulatory and policy frameworks, service provision, quality management, human resources, and financing as the main challenges facing the LTC sector. Secondly, it suggests that the development of LTC systems should focus on improving the quality of care, increasing access to services, and promoting community-based care.
Recommendations:
To address these challenges, the publication recommends several policy and institutional reforms. These include the establishment of a comprehensive LTC policy framework, the development of a sustainable financing mechanism, the improvement of human resources training and retention, the promotion of public-private partnerships, and the development of community-based care services.
Conclusion:
In conclusion, this publication provides valuable insights into the availability and provision of LTC in Mongolia. It highlights the need for concerted efforts to develop and improve LTC systems in the country to ensure that older individuals can receive the care they need in a dignified and supportive manner.
