This edited volume presents fresh perspectives on the study of national culture and organizational culture, highlighting their inherent intersections. However, identifying and examining these intersections can be challenging, as national culture evolves generationally, while organizational culture can swiftly adapt due to leadership changes, product innovations, and technological advancements. Unfortunately, the study of culture often remains discipline-specific, with limited consideration given to its examination across other fields.

To address this, a workshop funded by the U.S. Army Research Institute was convened, inviting 18 scholars from 16 institutions across 13 states and 4 disciplines. This book emerged from two days of intense discussions and reflections, showcasing the contributions of over 1,000 academics from diverse social science and management fields.

This book serves as a comprehensive resource, reconsidering cultural definitions, theories, and methodologies, exploring the purposes, functions, and influences of culture, and shedding light on the impact of communication, language, leadership, and technology on cultural change. It is an ideal text for advanced undergraduate and graduate coursework, as well as those interested in broader cultural influences.

By examining the intersections between national and organizational culture, this volume contributes to a more holistic understanding of the complex dynamics that shape societies and organizations. It encourages scholars and practitioners to explore new avenues for research, collaboration, and innovation, ultimately advancing our knowledge and understanding of culture in the 21st century.
