This volume presents 450 annotated registers documenting papal relations in Dalmatia and Croatia from Peter to 1198. It describes the church and its establishment along the Adriatic coast, with subordinate dioceses initially subordinate to the metropolitan seat of Salona. In the 11th and 12th centuries, two further church provinces were established, and with the establishment of the archdiocese of Bar / Antibari, the ecclesiastical organization was concluded. The volume records papal contacts in the area of the three archdioceses and includes evidence of archival and historiographical transmission, bibliographical information on recipient institutions, and historical introductions.

This extensive volume presents a comprehensive account of the papal relations within the historical territories of Dalmatia and Croatia, spanning from the reign of Peter to 1198. Comprising a staggering 450 meticulously annotated registers, it offers a detailed exploration of the ecclesiastical landscape, encompassing the church and its institutions established along the Adriatic coast in antiquity. The book spans from Istria in the north to northern Albania in the south, providing a comprehensive overview of the region's church organization, which was initially centered around the capital of the Roman province, Salona, now divided into the countries of Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Montenegro, and Albania.

Throughout the 11th and 12th centuries, the ecclesiastical landscape in the region underwent significant expansion with the establishment of two additional church provinces, namely Zadar/Zara and Dubrovnik/Ragusa. This expansion marked a pivotal moment in the development of the church's organization in the region. However, the culmination of this organizational process came with the establishment of the archdiocese of Bar/Antibari, which effectively brought an end to the ecclesiastical organization in the area.

The volume is organized based on the recipient institutions involved in the papal contacts, providing a comprehensive record of all papal interactions within the three archdioceses and also including contacts to papal legates and delegated judges. Similar to the other volumes in the series, this volume also serves as a valuable source of evidence for the archival and historiographical transmission, offering detailed bibliographical information on the recipient institutions and providing historical introductions to enhance the reader's understanding of the context.
