This remarkable book is a heartfelt posthumous tribute to the extraordinary life and work of Shaykh Dr. Ibrahim Abdurrahman Farajajé, a bisexual philosopher, theologian, AIDS-activist, and educator. Born in Berkeley, California, in 1952, Dr. Farajajé left an indelible mark on the fields of queer theory, liberation theology, decoloniality, Islamic/Tasawwuf studies, sacred sexuality, religious responses to HIV/AIDS, and a counter-hegemonic understanding of our world.

In addition to the profound contributions of his former colleagues, students, mentees, and those his work inspired, this collection also features Dr. Farajajé's own essays and speeches, many of which were previously unpublished. With its comprehensive and insightful contents, this collection serves as a foundational guide to further scholarship on Dr. Farajajé and his enduring legacy.

Dr. Farajajé's journey began at Vassar College, where he was one of the earliest male students to graduate. He went on to earn a Theol. magna cum laude from the University of Bern, where he specialized in the sociology of religion. During the height of the HIV/AIDS crisis, he held a chair in the sociology of religion at Howard University, where he tirelessly advocated for the rights and well-being of those affected by the disease.

In addition to his academic pursuits, Dr. Farajajé was deeply committed to activism-scholarship, living the values he advanced in his work through his professional affiliations and modes of engagement. He served as the provost of Starr King School for the Ministry, a premier hub for the academic and vocational exploration of multi-religious identity and practice.

This book will be an invaluable resource for scholars and researchers in the fields of queer theology and ethics, Islamic studies, cultural and social understandings of HIV/AIDS, religious studies, and theology more broadly. One of the chapters in this volume was originally published in the book titled Male Lust: Pleasure, Power, and Transformation, edited by Kerwin Brook, Jill Nagle, and Baruch Gould. Other chapters were originally published as a special issue of J.

In conclusion, this book is a testament to the profound impact of Shaykh Dr. Ibrahim Abdurrahman Farajajé on the world. It serves as a lasting tribute to his life and work, providing a wealth of scholarship, critical engagement, and creative responses that illustrate the significance of his legacy to queer theory, liberation theology, decoloniality, Islamic/Tasawwuf studies, sacred sexuality, religious responses to HIV/AIDS, and a counter-hegemonic understanding of our world.
