The Ducati Story, penned by Ian Falloon, is a comprehensive account of the marque's history, encompassing its evolution from its inception to the present day. Initially under government control, Ducati experienced a tumultuous journey marked by questionable managerial decisions. However, it was the unwavering dedication of the great engineer Fabio Taglioni, known as the father of desmodromic valve gear, that held the company together. Under his guidance, Ducati produced some of the finest motorcycles of the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s, including the Marianna, desmo 125 single, Mach 1, 750, and Pantah.

Taglioni's vision extended beyond the realm of motorcycle production. He initiated Ducati's return to racing, and the victory in the 1972 Imola 200 marked a pivotal moment. Mike Hailwood rode the 900 Ducati to victory in the 1978 Isle of Man Formula One race, while Tony Rutter secured four World TT2 Championships.

In 1985, Cagiva acquired Ducati, bringing with it a new engineer, Massimo Bordi, and innovative designs such as the Desmoquattro. This model dominated the World Superbike Championship during the 1990s, particularly in the hands of Carl Fogarty. Landmark models such as the 916 and Monster were introduced, and with the sale of Ducati to the Texas Pacific Group in 1996, the company continued to flourish. The racing program expanded to MotoGP, and new model families were introduced.

In 2006, Ducati entered a new era of development under the ownership of the Italian company InvestIndustrial. Casey Stoner clinched the MotoGP World Championship in 2007, further solidifying Ducati's reputation as a dominant force in the motorcycle racing world.

Today, under the Audi umbrella, Ducati continues to thrive. This new edition of Falloon's book includes a brand-new chapter that covers all the models from 2012 to 2018, providing a comprehensive overview of the marque's ever-evolving lineup.

The Ducati Story is a testament to the resilience and innovation of a company that has defied the odds and emerged as a symbol of motorcycle excellence. It is a story of passion, dedication, and the pursuit of excellence that has captivated enthusiasts around the globe. Whether you are a seasoned motorcycle enthusiast or a newcomer to the world of two wheels, this book is a must-read for anyone who wants to understand the rich history and remarkable achievements of Ducati.
