  • More about Dying Art

Brig Ellis is a private investigator who agrees to protect an artist whose husband paints with cremated ashes of human remains. When the artist's profile rises, so too does the number of people less than thrilled with his work, and some are determined to stop him. Ellis soon finds himself in the middle of multiple bizarre events that could be chalked up as accidental mayhem or escalating murder attempts. He struggles to keep the detractors at a distance, the artist safe, and the old flame from igniting a new spark while he looks for a potential killer and wrestles with his own convictions about the moral conundrums surrounding this fascinating but questionable form of DYING ART.

Brig Ellis is a modern-day private eye with traditional principles. He accepts a call from an old love asking for assistance in safeguarding her husband, an artist whose fame is on the rise. Brig is unaware that the artist uses cremated human ashes to create his works of art. As the artist's reputation grows, so does the number of people who are unhappy with his actions, and some of them are willing to go to great lengths to stop him.

Ellis quickly finds himself caught up in a series of strange incidents that could be attributed to coincidence or escalating murder attempts. From wild art house events in the warehouse district to glamorous soirees in the manicured homes of the wealthy elite, the situation becomes increasingly dangerous. A tornado in far west Texas threatens to destroy everything and everyone in its path. A trip to Havana, Cuba, turns deadly. An art exhibition in Chicago turns into a nightmare when a Molotov cocktail sets a gallery on fire. The violence continues to escalate, as do the suspects. There are jealous artists, shady gallery owners, reporters with hidden agendas, outraged Christian ministers, and even Jewish groups who become enraged when they discover that one of the artist's paintings contains the ashes of a Holocaust survivor.

Ellis struggles to keep the detractors at bay, the artist safe, and the old flame from reigniting a new spark while he searches for a potential killer and grapples with his own moral dilemmas about the ethical conundrums.

Joe Kilgore has received accolades for his novels, novellas, screenplays, and short stories. Before penning for the page and screen, Joe had a successful career in advertising.
