A novel that delves into the depths of sadness, madness, and badness, "The Spectator" is a standalone masterpiece by the iconic artist and author of "The Vorrh." This extraordinary tale of feline evil has not been seen since Edgar Allan Poe and Bulgakov's "The Master and Margarita."

The protagonist of the story, Earwig, earns his nickname from his grandfather. At the beginning of the narrative, he is employed to care for a peculiar little girl in a flat in Liege. He secretly observes her, listens to her through the wall by holding a glass, and never touches her except when he is required to perform his duties, which include making teeth of ice and inserting them into her gums.

On a rare day off, Earwig spends his time alone in Au Metro, a seedy bar filled with drunks, dancers, and eccentrics. It is St. Martin's day, and as crowds parade through the street carrying lanterns through the snow, he is reluctantly drawn into a conversation with a sinister stranger named Tyre. As a result of this encounter, Earwig accidentally maims a waitress with a broken bottle, realizing that Tyre intended for this to happen.

Shortly after, a black cat is delivered to the flat, uninvited. The girl forms an immediate bond with it, but Earwig recognizes it as the enemy. Travelling across the country by train, transporting the girl and her black cat, Earwig becomes increasingly entangled in a web of unfortunate and increasingly violent coincidences.

"The Spectator" is a haunting and atmospheric novel that explores the darkest corners of the human psyche. With its vivid prose and intricate plot, it is a testament to the artist's exceptional talent and creativity. This standalone masterpiece is sure to captivate readers and leave them pondering its profound themes long after they have turned the last page.
