In the captivating photographs taken by Anthony Dawton and Jim McFarlane in their book "Edge of Hope," the Rohingya people residing in the refugee camp at Coxs Bazar in Kutupalong, Bangladesh, come to life. Nearly one million refugees have found shelter in this camp, having escaped the genocide perpetrated by the Myanmarese government and military, as well as the armed militias.

The Rohingyan refugees endure a harsh existence, living in fragile shelters subjected to scorching heat, devastating cyclones, and monsoons. Their conditions are plagued by poor nutrition, limited access to clean water and essential healthcare, and the cramped quarters that exacerbate the spread of diseases, including vaccine-preventable and water-borne illnesses, as well as the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Shockingly, over half of the refugees are children.

What sets Dawton and McFarlane apart from traditional photojournalists is their freedom from time constraints. This allows them to form deep connections with their subjects, resulting in photographs that capture the essence of humanity and dignity, even in the face of tragic circumstances. Their images serve as a powerful testament to the resilience and strength of the human spirit.

The Amal Foundation, driven by the unwavering commitment of its founders, continues to work tirelessly in the camp, providing relief and support to the Rohingya community. The publication of "Edge of Hope" serves as a platform to raise funds and awareness for the foundation, enabling it to continue its vital work and bring hope to those who have endured unimaginable suffering.
