Quarks are the fundamental building blocks of matter that make up protons, neutrons, and other particles. Protons are made up of three quarks: two up quarks and one down quark. Neutrons are made up of three quarks: two down quarks and one up quark. Oxygen atoms are made up of two protons and two electrons. Carbon dioxide molecules are made up of one carbon atom and two oxygen atoms. Humans are made up of carbon atoms.

The number of quarks in a proton and an oxygen atom is the same, which is three. The number of protons in an oxygen atom is the same as the number of electrons in an oxygen atom, which is two. The number of carbon atoms in a carbon dioxide molecule is the same as the number of oxygen atoms in a carbon dioxide molecule, which is two. The number of carbon atoms in a human is the same as the number of carbon atoms in a carbon dioxide molecule, which is one.
