Elmer the Patchwork Elephant is turning 30, and his friends have a special surprise in store for him! They decide to play a trick on him and pretend to forget his birthday tomorrow. But when the day comes, the trick doesn't quite go according to plan. The elephants should have listened to Elmer's friends who warned them that pretending to forget someone's birthday is not a good idea.

As the day goes on, Elmer becomes more and more confused and upset. He doesn't understand why his friends are ignoring him and pretending not to know him. He even starts to feel like he doesn't belong in the animal kingdom anymore.

Finally, it's time for Elmer's birthday party. His friends have organized a huge surprise for him, but Elmer is still feeling hurt and angry. He doesn't want to celebrate his birthday with them anymore.

But then something amazing happens. Elmer's friends come to him and apologize for their trick. They explain that they were only trying to make Elmer happy and that they didn't realize how much it would hurt him. Elmer is touched by their apology and decides to forgive them.

The party goes on, and Elmer is finally able to enjoy himself. He is surrounded by his friends, who are all singing and dancing and celebrating his birthday. Elmer realizes that he has been so busy worrying about his birthday that he had forgotten what was really important - the love and friendship of his friends.
