Since the 1970s, state intervention and social engagement have significantly influenced the structure and location of FeMs, with attendance spanning across all socio-economic strata of society. A recent development, particularly in urban centers, involves the teaching of the state curriculum to enable young students to access mainstream education. Public opinion regarding the role of FeMs is divided, with some perceiving them as confining women to the domestic realm while others view them as a progressive step towards modernity, as they educate the least educated sectors of society.

The author employs the lens of language and gender to explore the reasons behind these divergent perspectives on FeMs. Specifically, language and vocabulary have played a powerful role in restricting women to their traditional roles. Madrasas have a profound impact on Pakistani society as a whole, responding to the immediate socio-political and economic needs of the community. In the past two decades, numerous books have been produced about male madrasas in Pakistan. However, there was a need for a book that exclusively focuses on women's madrasas, considering that the number of female students enrolled in madrasas is higher than that of male students. This unique book draws upon the author's personal experience of studying at an FeM. The author entered a madrasa with a deep desire to draw closer to God, to gain knowledge of the book revealed to the Prophet Muhammad, and to understand his words and actions. Throughout her studies, the author consistently recognized that acquiring knowledge is one of the most important aspects of life.

FeM has undergone significant changes over the years, reflecting the broader societal shifts in Pakistan. While some argue that FeMs perpetuate traditional gender roles and limit women's opportunities, others see them as a means of empowering women and promoting gender equality. The teaching of the state curriculum. curriculum in FeMs has been a contentious issue, with some advocating for its integration to provide students with a comprehensive education that aligns with national standards, while others argue for its preservation as a unique form of religious education.

The study also explores the role of FeMs in promoting social cohesion and stability in Pakistan.
