Austria's economy is marked by the prevalence of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), with solo entrepreneurs playing a significant role within these businesses. Solo entrepreneurs are considered a distinct category within SMEs and contribute significantly to Austria's economy, alongside being the most popular legal form of organization for micro firms. In 2020, a remarkable statistic emerged from Carinthia: every second start-up business was established by a female entrepreneur. According to a 2019 entrepreneurship study conducted by Volksbank, nearly half of all female entrepreneurs were raising children andjuveniles. Two-thirds of these women reported being solely responsible for family, childcare, and household responsibilities, and 71 percent of them indicated that these circumstances posed challenges to their entrepreneurial pursuits.

This book delves into the lives of Carinthian female solo entrepreneurs, seeking to understand how they successfully manage their business and personal lives while making substantial contributions to the economy of the federal states. The conceptual framework for this study draws upon the concepts of embeddedness and the contextual framework, which emphasize the importance of various influences operating at different levels on the entrepreneur. The empirical section of the book represents primary research that evaluates self-collected data sets from Carinthian solo entrepreneurs.

The findings of this study shed light on the strategies employed by these hardworking women to balance their professional and personal commitments. It highlights the challenges they face and the strategies they adopt to overcome them. The book also provides valuable insights into the contributions of Carinthian female solo entrepreneurs to the local and national economies, emphasizing their role as drivers of innovation, growth, and job creation.

Overall, this book offers a comprehensive examination of Carinthian female solo entrepreneurs, shedding light on their experiences, challenges, and contributions to the economy. It contributes to the growing body of research on women entrepreneurs and provides valuable insights into the unique challenges and opportunities faced by women in the business world.
