The 16th International Conference on Formalizing Natural Languages: Applications to Natural Language Processing and Digital Humanities, known as NooJ 2022, was held in Rosario, Argentina, in June 2022, despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. NooJ is a linguistic development environment that empowers linguists to create comprehensive linguistic resources that formalize a wide range of linguistic phenomena, including typography, orthography, lexicon development for simple words, multiword units, discontinuous expressions, inflectional, derivational, and agglutinative morphology, local, phrase-structure, and dependency grammars, as well as transformational and semantic grammars.

A total of 17 full papers were presented at the conference, following a rigorous review process from a pool of 50 submissions. These papers were organized into four topical areas:

Morphological and Lexical Resources: This section explored the development and utilization of resources for morphological analysis, including lexicon construction, morphology processing, and language modeling.
