1996: In a Ugandan dive bar, a group of mercenary pilots from various countries, including Texas, Russia, Kenya, and Belgium, gather. These anarchic pilots transport weapons between warring African nations, without allegiance. Among them is Manu, a 19-year-old cowherd fleeing the bloody war in Congo.

Taken in by this unconventional band of brothers, Manu experiences the world from a new perspective, falling in love with flying. However, his journey is not without its challenges. Troubles persist, and when the past resurfaces, Manu is compelled to leave behind the African skies and head to northern Europe.

Will Manu be able to reinvent himself once again? And is Belgian volcanologist Anke Desseaux the solution to his problems, or merely another complication?

Written by the acclaimed author of "The Last King of Scotland," this unforgettable story explores the resilience of the human spirit and the power of love in the face of trauma. Set against the backdrop of world-shaking conflict, it offers a poignant portrayal of how individuals can navigate the complexities of life and find hope amidst adversity.
