On the 25th birthday of George Vlachonikolis, he was carrying an SA80 assault rifle. Strapped to the left-hand side of his Osprey body armor, within easy reach, was his bayonet. George was stationed in Helmand Province, Afghanistan.

In front of him was a class of secondary school students, who were settling down and getting ready for their next lesson. George was teaching at a school in the UK.
