Rachel "Bunny" Mellon's life was a testament to her unwavering passion for garden design. Alongside her husband, Paul Mellon, one of the wealthiest men in America, she created stunning gardens in various locations, including New York, Cape Cod, Nantucket, Antigua, and Upperville, Virginia. Mellon's talent extended beyond her own estates, as she also designed gardens for close friends, such as the Rose Garden and the East Garden at the White House, at the request of President Kennedy. Her remarkable creations also included the gardens at both the Paris home and the château of couturier Hubert de Givenchy. These gardens are showcased in "The Gardens of Bunny Mellon," a captivating book that features Mellon's own garden plans, sketches, watercolors, archival photographs, and specially commissioned photographs of Oak Spring, the Mellon estate in Upperville. The author, Linda Holdens, drew upon extensive interviews with Mellon before her passing in 2014 to provide a captivating account of her life and work.
