Rabbit was hopping home one day when he heard a loud voice coming from inside his burrow.

"I M THE GIANT JUMPEREE AND I M SCARY AS CAN BE!" the voice boomed.

Rabbit's heart raced with fear as he tried to figure out who was behind the mysterious voice. He had heard tales of giant creatures lurking in the forest, but he had never thought he would encounter one.

Just then, Rabbit's friends, Cat, Bear, and Elephant, came to his aid. They were all curious about the source of the noise and wanted to help Rabbit.

However, as soon as they approached the burrow, they were each scared away in turn by the mysterious voice.

"He can squash you like a flea," the voice said. "He will sting you like a bee. And he's taller than a tree!"

Rabbit's friends were terrified by the description of the Giant Jumperee. They had never heard of such a creature and didn't know what to do.

But Rabbit was determined to find out who was behind the voice. He searched the forest for any signs of the Giant Jumperee, but he couldn't find anything.

Days turned into weeks, and Rabbit's friends grew worried. They didn't know if Rabbit was okay or if he had been captured by the Giant Jumperee.

Just when they had given up hope, Rabbit stumbled upon a group of animals who were also searching for the Giant Jumperee. They had heard the same terrifying voice and had been scared away just like Rabbit's friends.

Together, Rabbit and his new friends set out to find the Giant Jumperee. They traveled through the forest, asking questions and searching for any clues.

Finally, they came across a clearing where they saw a giant creature standing in the center. It was the Giant Jumperee, and it was indeed scary as can be.

The Giant Jumperee was a giant rabbit with long ears and sharp teeth. It had a powerful jump and could leap over trees and bushes with ease.

Rabbit and his friends were terrified, but they knew they had to face the Giant Jumperee if they wanted to save their friend.

They approached the Giant Jumperee cautiously, ready to defend themselves if necessary.

To their surprise, the Giant Jumperee didn't attack them. Instead, it spoke in a gentle voice.

"I'm not here to hurt you," the Giant Jumperee said. "I'm just here to play."

Rabbit and his friends were shocked. They had never heard a rabbit talk before, and they were even more surprised to hear that the Giant Jumperee wasn't a threat.

The Giant Jumperee explained that it had been lonely in the forest and had been looking for friends. It had heard the voices of Rabbit's friends and had been scared away, thinking they were enemies.

Rabbit and his friends were touched by the Giant Jumperee's story. They realized that they had been too quick to judge and that sometimes, appearances can be deceiving.

They spent the rest of the day playing with the Giant Jumperee, jumping and hopping and having fun. The Giant Jumperee was no longer a scary creature, but a friend.

As Rabbit and his friends were leaving the forest, they promised to visit the Giant Jumperee again soon. They knew that they had made a new friend and that they had learned an important lesson about kindness and understanding.

Inspired by a traditional African tale, this is a new read-aloud classic from internationally bestselling author Julia Donaldson, beautifully brought to life by award-winning illustrator Helen Oxenbury.
