Through an interview conducted by Hassan Owl, an aspiring Iraq-born writer, these individuals become the subjects of an online art project, a blog that blurs the boundaries between fiction and autobiography, reportage, and the novel. Framed by an email correspondence with the enigmatic Alia, a translator of the Romanian philosopher Emil Cioran, the project takes us on a journey through the bars, brothels, and bathhouses of Hassans past and present, exploring themes of trauma, violence, identity, and desire. Drawing inspiration from the Islamic tradition that asserts that God has 99 names, the novel employs a kaleidoscopic lens to examine the multifaceted experiences behind Europes so-called migrant crisis and poses the question of how those who have been displaced can reclaim their sense of self.
