Their work has been honored by over 350 design awards, and in 2008, they merged with a foreign firm to create the 3rd largest architectural firm worldwide. Studio Hillier was formed in 2012, and NJIT's College of Architecture and Design was renamed the J. Robert and Barbara A. Hillier College of Architecture and Design in celebration of their commitment to providing more equitable access to design education.

More recently, NJIT's College of Architecture and Design was renamed the J. Robert and Barbara A. Hillier College of Architecture and Design, in honor of the Hilliers' unwavering commitment to promoting more equitable access to design education.
