The eighth Anti-Aircraft Battery of Royal Artillery was first stationed in India in 1921, but it wasn't until the threat from Japanese expansionism that India realized the need to strengthen its anti-aircraft defences. Indian Anti-Aircraft Artillery expanded to over thirty-four regiments, making it the second largest concentration of Anti-Aircraft defences outside of Great Britain. Indian gunners served in various battlefields with honour, including Singapore, Malaya, Burma, Maldives, Aden, and Iraq. They were also one of the first to enlist women when the WAC(I) manned its operation rooms and drove lorries.

In 1921, the eighth Anti-Aircraft Battery of Royal Artillery was first stationed in India, but it wasn't until two decades later that the threat from Japanese expansionism made India realize the inadequacy of its anti-aircraft defenses. Starting from a Battery raised at Colaba, Indian Anti-Aircraft Artillery quickly expanded to over thirty-four regiments, making India have the second-largest concentration of Anti-Aircraft defenses outside the Great Britain. At one point, India had more Anti-Aircraft Regiments than field artillery. Despite their numerical strength, Indian Anti-Aircraft gunners served with honor in various battlefields, both during defeat and victory. They were present in Singapore, Malaya, Burma, Maldives, Aden, and Iraq, representing a diverse range of races and castes. The regiment also had a separate training center for women and was one of the first to enlist women when the WAC(I) manned its operation rooms and drove lorries.
