In 1962, the police discovered the location of a shrine for the Greek Goddess Eileithyia in Tsoutsouros, Crete. Nikolaos Platon and Costis Davaras excavated the cave, which contained over 100 items of gold, Egyptian figurines, seal stones, bronze objects, and clay figurines. The dates of the shrine's use extended from before 2000 B.C. to the Roman Imperial period. Many of the clay images are especially appropriate for the deity, including pregnant women, embracing couples, figures in preparation for childbirth, mothers holding babies, and a young child in its crib.

In 1962, following a period of covert looting, the police uncovered the location of a shrine dedicated to the Greek goddess Eileithyia in south-central Crete, at the ancient site of Inatos. The cave, revered as the ancient goddess of childbirth and motherhood, was excavated that year by Nikolaos Platon and Costis Davaras on behalf of the Archaeological Museum in Herakleion.

The shrine was brimming with remarkable votive offerings, including over 100 items of gold, Egyptian figurines, seal stones, bronze objects, and hundreds of clay figurines. The dates of the shrine's use spanned from before 2000 B.C. to the Roman Imperial period. Many of the clay images were particularly fitting for this deity, depicting pregnant women, embracing couples, figures in preparation for childbirth, mothers holding babies, and a young child in its crib.

To commemorate and disseminate the significance of this unique shrine, a Greek language book has been translated into English. It features images, catalog entries, and explanatory texts highlighting the most important discoveries made at the shrine. This resource provides a valuable insight into the rich cultural heritage and religious significance of this ancient site.
