When Jade Emperor drops two precious gems from heaven, he is devastated, and his sorrow cloaks the whole world in darkness. To get them back, his children must journey to Earth, traverse mountains and rivers, dive to the depths of the East Sea, and petition the Dragon Kings. With such a long and dangerous quest ahead, will they be able to restore the gems and bring light back into the world?
Following the success of Poonam Mistrys How the Stars Came to Be, this next instalment in the How it Came to Be series is inspired by Vietnamese folk tales and brilliantly brought to life by Saigon-based illustrator William Luong.
The Jade Emperor, ruler of the celestial realm, was filled with despair when he accidentally dropped two precious gems from heaven. The gems, imbued with immense power and beauty, held the key to restoring harmony to the universe. The Emperor's sorrow spread like a dark cloud, casting a shadow over the entire world.
Determined to retrieve the lost gems, the Emperor's children embarked on a perilous journey to Earth. They traversed treacherous mountains, crossed raging rivers, and braved the depths of the East Sea. Along the way, they encountered numerous challenges and obstacles, testing their courage and strength.
Finally, after months of arduous travel, they reached the palace of the Dragon Kings, the guardians of the East Sea. The Dragon Kings were impressed by the children's bravery and determination and agreed to help them in their quest.
Together, the children and the Dragon Kings embarked on a daring adventure into the depths of the East Sea. They navigated through treacherous waters, avoiding dangerous creatures and overcoming countless obstacles. Finally, they reached the bottom of the sea, where they found the lost gems.
The gems were shimmering in the dim light, their brilliance captivating the children. With great care, they retrieved the gems and returned them to the Jade Emperor.
As the gems were placed back into their rightful place, the world was filled with a radiant light. The darkness that had once enveloped it dissipated, and the world was once again filled with joy and harmony.
The children were hailed as heroes, and their journey became a legend passed down through generations. They had restored the lost gems and brought light back into the world, proving that even in the darkest of times, hope and courage can prevail.
From that day forward, the Jade Emperor and his children lived in peace and prosperity, knowing that they had done something truly extraordinary. The story of their quest became a source of inspiration for people all over the world, reminding them that even in the face of adversity, there is always a way to bring light and hope into the world.
