  • More about I Ching: The Ancient Chinese Book of Changes

The Yi-jing, or I Ching, is an ancient Chinese divination and prophesy text dating from the 4th century BC. It is consulted by performing complex routines of dropping bundles of dried grass stalks, and the patterns formed are represented by 64 symbols called hexagrams. The book tells how to interpret the hexagrams to decide which is the best approach or action in a given situation.

The 2,500-year-old Yi-jing, also known as the I Ching, translates as the Book of Changes. This ancient Chinese work of divination and prophecy has been cherished for centuries. Dating back to the 4th century BC, it is traditionally consulted through intricate rituals involving the dropping of bundles of dried grass stalks. The resulting patterns formed by the six stalks are represented by 64 symbols called hexagrams, which depict every possible combination of broken and unbroken stalks. The Book of Changes provides guidance on how to interpret these hexagrams to determine the best approach or action in any given situation.

Complementing the 64 hexagrams are various interpretations, including the Judgment, penned by King Wen in the 12th Century BCE, the Commentary and The Image (both attributed to Confucius, 6th–5th Century BCE), and the Lines, written by King Wens son. These interpretations are accompanied by present-day interpretative texts. Crafted with meticulous attention to detail, this book is presented in a traditional Chinese binding, featuring a timeless design that allows enthusiasts of Eastern philosophies to embark on a journey reminiscent of Confucius and utilize the I Ching to predict their destiny.
