During quarantine, I embarked on a series of primitive portraits, drawing artists who have influenced my life using crayons and pencils. Just as the COVID-19 pandemic began to take hold in the United States, I was on a west coast tour and had plans to relax and decompress in upstate. However, the pandemic quickly escalated, leaving me without reception, internet, books, records, or instruments. In a desperate attempt to connect with my creative side, I picked up a pack of crayons at the supermarket. This simple daily routine provided solace and healing, similar to meditation. It was incredible to reconnect with my deepest roots in art, drawing, and the place where my creative journey began. Using the same medium (crayon) that started it all was a wild and unexpected experience. While the drawings may be crude, I don't care. They capture the essence of the artists who have inspired me and the impact they have had on my life.
