The book presents a selection of papers from a seminar organized by the South Asia Institute, the Max Müeller Bhavan, and the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany, held in New Delhi in February 1982 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Max Müeller Bhavan, New Delhi. The seminar was dedicated to the memory of Hermann Goetz, a renowned Indian art historian. The papers cover a diverse range of topics, including a comparative study of Indo-Aryan and Iranian-Aryan mythology, trade links in western India, legends of Krishna, descriptions of newly discovered rock drawings at Chilas, two Gandhara sculptures, frescoes decorated at the Lahore Fort, and Indian and Western philosophy, both ancient and modern. Joachim Deppert (born in 1944) is a scholar who has studied Western music, comparative religion, Sanskrit, history of Indian art, and anthropology, primarily in Heidelberg. He obtained a doctoral degree with a thesis on incest in Vedic mythology and later conducted post-graduate research in Varanasi (BHU) and field research in Kashmir.
