A comprehensive global study conducted by the FAO Investment Centre and the International Food Policy Research Institute, with support from the CGIAR Research Programme on Policies, Institutions, and Markets and the FAO Research and Extension Unit, delves into the realm of agriculture human capital investments, exploring trends and highlighting promising initiatives. Among the nine featured case studies, one stands out as a remarkable example: the Jharkhand Opportunities for Harnessing Rural Growth Programme in India. This case study focuses on investing in developing the human capital of women livestock farmers, transforming them into certified master trainers and community service providers known as Ajeevika Pashu Sakhi (APS).

Strategically selected livestock farmers underwent rigorous training and coaching to become APSs, providing doorstep technical, marketing, and risk reduction support to women livestock farmers. Certified master trainers played a crucial role in supporting these APSs, ensuring they had the necessary skills and knowledge to deliver high-quality services.

The impact of the APS model was profound, enhancing the economic and social well-being of rural poor women who were engaged in livestock farming and serving as APSs.
