  • More about Iraq after the Invasion: From Fragmentation to Rebirth and Reintegration

The invasion and occupation of Iraq in 2003 led to the dismantling of the state and the destruction of government structures and processes. The USA and UK invaded Iraq to remove Saddam Hussein's regime, imposing harsh sanctions and creating a sense of pessimism and impassivity among the Iraqi people. The provisional US-installed administration passed resolutions that dissolved the security and armed forces and de-baathified the country, leading to the Iraqi Kurdish Region becoming a de facto independent entity. The central government became weaker than the regions, and national unity suffered. Iraq now needs a national reconciliation program to re-unite the people and the country.

The invasion and occupation of Iraq in 2003 had far-reaching and devastating consequences, leading to the dismantling of the state and the destruction of government structures and processes. The United States and the United Kingdom, driven by their obsession with removing the regime of Saddam Hussein, resorted to falsehoods and charges to justify their actions. These included allegations of weapons of mass destruction (WMD).

Over a span of 13 years, the country faced unprecedented and relentless sanctions, which not only impoverished the Iraqi people but also instilled a sense of pessimism and impassivity. The regime's totalitarian nature further contributed to this attitude.

The provisional US-installed administration passed resolutions that had catastrophic consequences, including the dissolution of the security and armed forces and the de-baathification law. The hurriedly contrived new constitution added to the confusion, negatively impacting the integrity of the state.

The Iraqi Kurdish Region became a de facto independent entity, further weakening the central government. The sectarian and ethnic quota-based policies followed by the occupying forces and expatriate Iraqis further disintegrated the Iraqi state, leading to national unity being the hardest hit.

The laws and institutions of the land were undermined, resulting in the further disintegration of the Iraqi state. This tragic event serves as a reminder of the importance of responsible governance, respect for human rights, and the need for peaceful resolution of conflicts.
