In this poignant tribute to the resilience of the human spirit, four unaccompanied migrant children embark on a treacherous journey northward through Mexico, driven by the unwavering hope and profound connections that transcend the uncertainties and fears that accompany their path. Every year, approximately 50,000 unaccompanied minors arrive at the US/Mexico border, seeking refuge and legal pathways to enter the United States. The majority of these children hail from the Central American Northern Triangle, which includes Honduras, El Salvador, and Guatemala, where they face relentless systemic violence. A Journey Toward Hope unfolds the captivating stories of Rodrigo, a 14-year-old Honduran youth escaping the harrowing realities of violence; Alessandra, a 10-year-old Guatemalan girl with a unique linguistic heritage; and the Salvadoran siblings Laura and Nando, each navigating their own unique challenges and motivations for the journey. Despite their diverse backgrounds and disparate reasons for embarking on this perilous trek, the four children find solace and strength in their shared experiences. Through their dreams, aspirations, and unwavering support for one another, they form an unbreakable bond that sustains them through the arduous journey ahead. Written in collaboration with Baylor University's Social Innovation Collaborative, A Journey Toward Hope is accompanied by stunning illustrations by the award-winning Susan Guevara (Chato's Kitchen, American Library Association Notable Book, New York Public Library's 100 Great Children's Books/100 Years). This book also includes four pages of nonfiction back matter, providing additional information and resources curated by Baylor University's Global Hunger and Migration Project.
