The Lui monograph has been followed by a new publication that delves into another iconic Lambretta model: the TV-LI Series I. In the rich history of Lambretta, the TV and LI Series I played a pivotal role in pioneering a revolutionary engineering concept that transformed the traditional shaft-driven model. This new series, which was sold from 1947 to 1958, achieved remarkable sales figures, with hundreds of thousands of units produced. The TV and LI Series I introduced numerous innovative features, including a duplex chain transmission with a four-speed gearbox and a horizontally positioned cylinder. In terms of the chassis, the most significant advancements were the larger 10 wheels and the dimensions of the bodywork. Furthermore, the rear suspension underwent a significant upgrade, abandoning the traditional torsion bar for a more efficient motorcycle-style spring-damper unit. This breakthrough allowed Lambretta to achieve a displacement of 170 cc, delivering impressive performance with a maximum speed of over 100 kph. The TV-LI Series I, in particular, holds a special place among collectors today, rivaling the popularity of the Vespa 150 GS. Even the more tranquil LI 125 and 150 models were extremely successful, with thousands of these exceptional Innocenti scooters still in operation today. Vittorio Tessera, known as Mr. Lambretta, has authored a comprehensive book that covers the technical, industrial, and social history of these models, accompanied by hundreds of photographs.
