This magnificent catalog showcases four remarkable books that have survived from the Middle Ages, including the finest of medieval Bibles, one of the oldest Books of Hours, a captivating biography of an Anglo-Saxon princess, and the oldest chivalric story in European history. These manuscripts have been unavailable on the market for at least eighty years, with one of them last being described in print in 1588, while the others were last cataloged for sale in 1909, 1932, and 1938, respectively. Each book is lavishly illustrated, featuring a total of 133 miniatures, along with hundreds of borders, illuminated animals, and grotesques. Some of the finest artists of the period contributed to the miniatures, and it is likely that at least two of them originated from the grandest courts of Europe. Award-winning author Christopher de Hamel penned the Introduction and Catalog, while Sandra Hindman, the founder and President of Les Enluminures, contributed the Preface. Les Enluminures, an internationally renowned authority in the field of Medieval and Renaissance manuscripts, miniatures, and finger rings, was established in Paris in 1991 by Dr. Sandra Hindman, a renowned expert on medieval and Renaissance manuscript illumination and Professor Emerita at Northwestern University. In May 2012, a second location in New York City was opened. Keegan Goepfert (M.A., Courtauld) joined the company as Vice-President in 2012. For over twenty-seven years, Les Enluminures has cultivated and maintained relationships with the world's most prestigious public and private collections. Clients from across the globe include renowned institutions such as the Mus.
