  • More about Lockerbie: The Truth

On December 21, 1988, Pan Am Flight 103 was destroyed by a bomb, killing all 243 passengers and sixteen crew. The only person convicted of the crime is Libyan Abdelbaset al-Megrahi, but many believe him innocent. Author Douglas Boyd presents evidence that Iran, not Libya, was responsible for the attack, and that Iran Air flight 655 was shot down by missiles from the USS Vincennes in July 1988. This line of enquiry was closed and Libya declared guilty due to the White House's desire to have neighbouring Syria and Iran on-side for the first Gulf War.

On the 21st of December, 1988, Pan Am Flight 103, departing from Frankfurt and bound for Detroit, tragically met its end when it was destroyed by a bomb, resulting in the loss of all 243 passengers and sixteen crew members. The explosion caused significant damage to the aircraft, with large sections crashing into residential areas of Lockerbie, Scotland. This tragic event claimed the lives of an additional eleven individuals on the ground. The psychological impact of this tragedy lingered for years, leaving a lasting imprint on the traumatized residents of Lockerbie. In some cases, the psychological scars endured throughout their lives.

While Libyan Abdelbaset al-Megrahi was the only person convicted for the crime, there is a growing belief among some that he may not have acted alone, and that he may have been unfairly accused. Author Douglas Boyd presents compelling evidence suggesting that Iran, rather than Libya, was responsible for the attack.

Interestingly, just less than six months before the Lockerbie bombing, on the 3rd of July, 1988, Iran Air flight 655 was on its way from Bandar Abbas to Dubai when it was shot down by missiles from the USS Vincennes, which was sailing illegally into Iranian territorial waters. Following this incident, Ayatollah Khomeini, the then-government leader of Iran, declared that revenge should be sought. However, this line of inquiry was quietly closed, and Libya was declared guilty, primarily due to the White House's desire to gain the support of neighboring Syria and Iran in preparation for the first Gulf War against Saddam Hussein's Iraq.

The book "Lockerbie: The Truth at Last" aims to shed light on the events surrounding the Lockerbie bombing and provide a comprehensive account of what transpired on that fateful night. It delves into the evidence, the investigations, and the political complexities that led to the conviction of al-Megrahi and the subsequent cover-up of the truth. Through meticulous research and compelling storytelling, the book seeks to unravel the mysteries surrounding this tragic incident and bring closure to the families of the victims.
